Academia Danças do Mundo

I'm not sure I have the right words to describe my great experience with Afonso and his Academia Dancas do Mundo. I was there with my partner to learn Kizomba. Afonso is an excellent teacher, incredibly emphatic and brings enormous passion to what he does. Just by observing my movements, he understood me better than I could have put into words. In addition to Kizomba, I learned a lot about music, its structure and about myself. If you want to learn more about dancing than just choreography and figures, Afonso is the right person for you. No teacher has ever been able to teach me what I was able to learn with Afonso. It was an absolutely worthwhile experience. Thank you very much Afonso Costa. I hope to see you again 🙏🏻🫶🏻.

We had a fantastic experience lerning to dance with Afonso. We took 5 days of private classes for our wedding and were able to learn more than we ever expected. We went from being two people that could not dance together to having two dance styles that we are very comfortable dancing at our wedding. Afonso gave us great instructions in both English and Portuguese. He was intrumental in builduing up our confidence and was able to assess how and where we needed the most support! He clearly loves music and the art of dancing and it shows.

My experience in the school Dancas do Mundo was absolutely great. First of all, Afonso, beside being a good teacher, is very kind, soft and sympathetic, which I consider a central aspect for those about to start learning and obviously don't feel secure neither confident. He was patient and caring, working within my possibilities and paying attention to the mental and social aspects beyond the technique. Secondly, talking about the dance itself, he will work on the fluidity of it more than a mere collection of hundreds of steps and figures. Which Is what I wanted. He gave a frame to use as a reference, he worked on the flow of the dance more than a ton of sequences easy to forget for beginners. I've been going to this academy for several years now, recently with a new location, very easy to find. This is an excellent school to learn to dance while comprehending dance itself! Afonso is a caring teacher who is genuinely concerned with the evolution of his students and with the best way to pass on the techniques. The atmosphere is very pleasant and full of good mood!

I visited Lisbon on vacation at the end of April, and luckily I found the rueda-de-casino workshops at Academia Danças do Mundo. Afonso and the Lisbon's rueda dancers warmly welcomed an old stranger from the Far East and let him into their rueda. Afonso carefully examined the skills of the first-time student, and properly pointed out what I needed to improve. I think I could do better during the lessons in that evening thanks to his advice. If you know basic salsa steps and rueda calls, you will thoroughly enjoy Afonso's rueda workshop and learn new skills with friendly company. When planning your holiday in Lisbon, I highly recommend all Cuban salsa dancers to check the lesson schedule of Academia Danças do Mundo. I do hope I will meet and dance with you all there in the wonderful city of Lisbon again someday. Muito obrigado (^^)/
