A Paisagem Protegida Local da Fonte da Benémola é um ótimo local para caminhadas em família, ideal para crianças que gostam de natureza. A trilha é fácil e acessível, com vistas deslumbrantes e rica biodiversidade. É aconselhável visitar fora da época alta para evitar multidões e desfrutar melhor do ambiente.
An easy hike from Viceroy. The loop we took is around 7.5 km / a bit under 5 miles. You have to cross the river once either on rocks or a little bridge. Both options very manageable. The hike itself is easy, there's not a lot of elevation and the trail is easy to walk on.

Natur reservat. Special species and a rich birdlife. Many fine but bumpy tracks and roads to walk. Seacret paths and magical spots. Mines nearby. Popular hicking place. Neat and clean. Please keep it that way!

Given it is the Algarve, apart from the coastal areas, there are few nature walks but this is a nice one. We did it in the baking heat but still enjoyed it. The river was still flowing but was a little low. Dry in parts. Saw Swallowtail butterflies, Cleopatra's, and possibly a Spanish Festoon. A Sage skipper, many Long-tailed blue, Southern Gatekeeper, as well as Holly Blue, Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown and Small White butterflies.

We had a lovely walk around Fonte da Benemola, A great spot to sit and have a picnic, with the sound of the birds the bee's and the sound of the river flowing, So soothing and stress free, just a shame that this place also needs a clean up, some TLC because all the bamboo is mounted in some areas as you can see in the last photos I uploaded.

Wow what a stunning views, Portugese wild nature at it's best. Some paths are rough and difficult to walk but that makes it even better. We were here in December, ideal temperature and no crowd, so that's an ideal period to enjoy the wonderful nature here. Like in lots of preserved parcs like this one the starting place / parking place is hard to find, placing some simple signs were to park will solve this problem. Along the path there are many plates with proper information though.
